Our Story
Founded by Nicole Perkins, The Things My Therapist Says Publishing was born from a deep passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to creating space for underrepresented voices in the publishing industry. As a Black woman, a licensed therapist, and an advocate for mental wellness, Nicole recognized a gap in the industry—there weren’t enough resources that truly spoke to the lived experiences of diverse communities.
With over 20 years of experience as a licenses therapist, Nicole has dedicated her career to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with evidence-based approaches and compassionate care. Her work has spanned trauma recovery, anxiety management, relationship dynamics, and personal empowerment. Throughout her career, she noticed that clients often found comfort in relatable, easy-to-understand guidance, yet struggled to find books and materials that reflected their unique experiences. That realization led to the creation of The Things My Therapist Says Publishing—a company that ensures every person has access to transformative knowledge and tools, written in a way that speaks to them.
Since its inception, the company has grown into a trusted source for mental health literature, earning recognition for its commitment to inclusivity, authenticity, and high-quality content. Under Nicole’s leadership, The Things My Therapist Says Publishing has not only published impactful works but has also built a movement centered around healing, growth, and self-empowerment.
We are proud to continue this journey, uplifting voices, sharing wisdom, and making mental health resources more accessible to all.
